If you hear on the news that a guy was dragged away from the Mazda display while sobbing, it's probably me.

On the bright side, lightly used ones have taken a decent depreciation hit.
Check out this nice well equipped manual. http://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/…
Maybe a few years from now, you will be able to find a nice affordable one.

I don't call $3k off new a big hit. The 2015 has more standard features

Upon building and pricing a new Mazda 6, it appears the this one took about a $7,700 depreciation hit.

Oops. Misread. Thought it said mazda3 in the link.
Not sure if the 14 vs 15 equipment stuff is the same as the 3. Could affect value.

I guess your right. I tried to price out as comparable of a 2015 as I could, but there could always be a few extras on the 15 to warrant the higher price.

I'll be looking in about 1.5 to 2 years, max. So, I'm hoping to find a base-ish '14 or '15 with decent miles and for a good price. My only must-have is Bluetooth. Everything else, I can live without.

Sounds like a good plan. Since base models seem to depreciate the worst, you should have a fairly easy time finding a good deal.
